Battery Tests

What is Battery Testing?

Battery testing refers to a series of tests conducted to evaluate battery (cell) performance and safety.
These tests are necessary to ensure that the batteries perform as expected, have a long life, and are safe in the environment and application in which they are used. There are several primary types of battery testing

Battery Testing

Main battery test types

environmental testing

  • Vibration test: Evaluates a battery’s ability to withstand the vibrations it is subjected to during transportation and use.
  • Shock test: Checks for battery damage or loss of function due to dropping or impact.

performance test

  • Capacity test: A test to determine how much energy a battery can store and release.Typically, charge-discharge cycles are repeatedly performed to measure the battery’s capacity.
  • Output Characteristic Test: Evaluates how much power a battery can supply under certain conditions.
  • Efficiency test: Measures how much energy is delivered without loss during the charging and discharging processes.

Endurance Tests

  • Cycle testing: Batteries are repeatedly charged and discharged to evaluate their long-term durability and service life.
  • Temperature test: tests how a battery performs in a hot or cold environment.

safety test

  • Short-circuit test: Short-circuit a battery intentionally to see if abnormal heating or ignition occurs.
  • Pressure test: Apply pressure to the battery to test for internal rupture or leakage.
  • Over-charge and over-discharge test: Checks if the battery is damaged by over-charge or over-discharge.

IMV Battery Testing

We employ the latest technical equipment for battery testing and large-scale vibration testing. We have a full range of facilities to meet a variety of needs.Leave thermal shock, vibration, and charge-discharge testing to us.
We can provide a wide variety of tests including vibration tests using our testing network that we have cultivated over the years. We can complete all testing in one place, making the process more efficient and smooth for our customers.

Features of IMV Tests and Solutions

We can carry out vibration and shock tests on behalf of our customers, develop test conditions and assist with countermeasures in the event of failure.

We are always available to help you with the following requests and problems

  • You do not know how to determine the test conditions.
  • There is no problem in the field even though the test has failed.
  • Want to reproduce a failure that occurred in the field, but the test does not show the same failure mode.
  • The customer has presented us with test conditions, but you do not know what to do.
  • Wants to review whether the existing test method is appropriate.
  • If a problem occurred in the test, was it solved with a single design change?
  • Want to design a product with the vibration/shock environment in mind from the development stage.

Vibration and shock testing requires a high level of expertise and extensive experience, but it is quite costly to train and maintain such specialists in each company. One solution is to outsource various vibration-related issues. The IMV Test Lab has a number of solutions, so feel free to contact us for more information.
